Gemini update
Use Gemini Workspace integrations with a small scope
Integrations work best when they solve one real workflow before they become part of everyone's daily routine.
What changed
Google Help documents Gemini integrations inside Workspace apps such as Chat, Docs, Drive, Gmail, Sheets and Slides. Users can type @ in the Gemini prompt box to select a connected integration where the feature is available.
Google's current help page says integrations support read actions, such as searching for or finding information. They cannot be used to make changes to third-party apps from Gemini in Workspace.
Try this
- Pick one workflow, such as checking open tasks from a connected work tool.
- Connect only the integration needed for that workflow.
- In a supported Workspace app, open Ask Gemini and type @.
- Select the integration, ask for the information you need and check the source system before acting.
Follow-up prompt
"List what you found by source. Separate confirmed items from items I should open in the original app before I act."
Make it easier
Name the workflow, not the integration. "Find today's assigned tasks" is easier to adopt than "use the Asana integration".
Check before relying on it
Availability depends on Google account type, Workspace edition, Google AI plan, administrator settings and sometimes a third-party subscription. For work or school accounts, admins may need to allow the integration.
