Gemini: reduce visual and language friction
Gemini has fewer in-app visual settings than some tools, so combine Gemini settings with your browser, device and Google Workspace settings.
Use dark theme
On a computer, go to gemini.google.com. At the bottom, open Settings and help, then turn Dark theme on or off. Google says Gemini matches your device color scheme by default, and the web preference is saved for the same browser and device.
Use device-level text settings
If text feels too small, use browser zoom on desktop. On mobile, use your device text size, display size and accessibility settings. This can be more reliable than waiting for every AI app to add its own font controls.
Check voice and language
Gemini Apps include language settings, and some voice options depend on language and platform. These can help if you prefer speaking or working in a language that costs less effort. Keep text available too, especially if accuracy matters or if you need to copy steps later.
Use Gemini in Workspace carefully
In Google Workspace, Gemini can appear in the side panel, bottom bar in Docs or inline while you work. Ask for short, structured output when using it in Gmail or Docs, because long side-panel answers can be hard to scan.

"Answer in plain language. Use short sections and clear headings. Give me the short version first. Then list steps I can follow in order. Avoid long paragraphs."
Good first setup
- Theme: Dark if light backgrounds bother you, otherwise match your device.
- Desktop: set browser zoom to a comfortable size.
- Mobile: use device text size and display size.
- Workspace: ask for structured answers in Gmail and Docs.
