ChatGPT: make the interface calmer
ChatGPT has visual settings that can make reading and navigation easier. Availability can differ by platform, app version, account, plan and rollout.
Start with appearance
On web and in the Windows app, open your profile icon, choose Settings, then General. Under Appearance, choose System, Light or Dark. System follows your device. Dark can help with light sensitivity. Light can be easier for some low-vision users when contrast is strong enough.
Increase contrast
On web and in the Windows app, ChatGPT has a Contrast setting under Settings, General. Increased contrast can make supported interface elements easier to distinguish. OpenAI notes the effect is currently most noticeable in light appearance.
Choose an accent color carefully
Accent color can change message bubbles, buttons and highlighted elements. If bright colors pull attention away from the text, choose a calmer color. If a neutral option such as Black or White is available, try it. Do not rely on color alone to understand state or meaning.
Use zoom and device text size
ChatGPT for Windows includes Text size under Settings, General. On the web, use browser zoom. On mobile, use your device display and text size settings. This often helps more than asking the AI to write shorter answers, because the whole interface becomes easier to use.
Try this setup prompt
"For future answers, use short paragraphs, clear headings and plain language. Start with a 3-bullet summary. Avoid wide tables unless I ask for one. End with one next step."
Good first setup
- Appearance: System or Dark, depending on light sensitivity.
- Contrast: Increased if the interface feels faint.
- Accent color: calm or neutral if available.
- Zoom: increase until you can read without leaning in.
- Voice: use when typing or reading costs too much energy.
